Top 5 Makeup Items Under $5

Cheap Thrills is a weekly column, in which an economically priced beauty product is reviewed.

While it is true that more expensive cosmetics tend to have better quality ingredients, and that more researches have gone into them, it does not necessarily mean that they will work for everybody

Why? Because we all have different skin chemistry and needs. Thus, sometimes the more economically priced products will work so much better for some of us than their more expensive counterparts!

Below are my favorite top five makeup items under $5, of all times. They're tried and true products that have been repurchased over and over again.

Note: The under $5 prices can only be guaranteed at the stores I have purchased them at; in this case, these stores are Target and Wal-Mart.

1. CoverGirl All-in-One Mascara: Also available in the waterproof formula, this mascara promises to lengthen and thicken. I really like the dramatic effects on my eyelashes! Now, does this mean that it'll make it look like you are wearing false lashes? Sorry, no. However, nothing can give us the look of false lashes except for false lashes! :-)

2. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks: Available in over 30 shades, and more than three different finishes, these extremely pigmented and moisturizing lipsticks have been classic staples since the 1930s. What I love most about them is that they are unscented. At under $5 a tube, Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks rival those higher priced ones at the department stores. I have also written numerous reviews for them, which you can read by simply clicking on the Revlon tag!

3. Rimmel London Match Perfection Foundation: I have never, ever been disappointed by a Rimmel London  product in my entire life. These Match Perfection foundations are great for many different skin types, especially combination skin. The foundations are non-greasy, blend seamlessly into the skin, provide a smooth and natural finish, and they don't oxidize (turn darker)!

4. Covergirl Cheekers blushes: A lot of my first makeup items were from Covergirl, and many of them have been staples in my collection for over a decade, such as the mascara above and the Cheekers blushes. These blushes are very pigmented, finely milled, and apply smoothly. For the best result, apply the blush with your favorite brush, instead of the included one.

5. NYX single eyeshadows: The packaging for NYX single eyeshadows has changed over the years, but one thing remain constant -- the quality. These eyeshadows rival those of MAC and Urban Decay, easily. They are pigmented, finely milled, and long-lasting. I have been using them since my college days and always recommend them to people. However, I do prefer the single eyeshadows to the palettes; it seems that the singles work so much better on my skin.

What are your favorite cheap thrills?

  1. What great finds for $5.00. I love Revlon lippies...they have been a long time fav of mine since way back in my teenage years. I have yet to try the Rimmel London foundations...I like that this one is not greasy on the skin.
