On Nov. 9th, my sons turned 1, and we had a small celebration at home. We kept everything very simple, since the boys were too young to understand what was going on anyway, so everything was DIY.
For the adults, I baked Black Forest Cake, but instead of using cherries (my least favorite fruit), I used strawberries and blackberries. It was a very simple homemade cake, but tasted so delicious.
Here's how I set up the cake table. There was also a table of real food, of course, but I forgot to take a picture of that one; it's obvious that I prioritize dessert as the most important, haha. :-P
I also baked a simple milk chocolate cake for each boy to smash, touch, taste, and otherwise explore! Of course, I did not let them finish the cake (or frosting, haha), but they weren't very interested anyway. The boys just love puree'd fruits more.
Word of advice: a chocolate cake with blue frosting photographs the best. The worst cake to photograph is one covered in white frosting, because it's so much harder for the camera to focus and catch the details. Of course, if you are a good photographer, then this doesn't apply to you. Hehe.
The boys! Remember to click on "HD" on the lower-right of the video to see the clearest version. :o)
