Sephora and Target Makeup-Beauty Haul

Hello, long time no post! Lol. As mentioned in my previous update, I was very busy in a cross-country move. I took a lot of pictures during my move/road trip across America, but I will need time to edit them.

Anyhow, yesterday was my birthday, and I decided to haul a few things from Sephora and Target as a treat for myself. I've included a quick review for each item, and will create individual posts for more in-depth reviews later.

From Target, I got:

1) Pond's Cold Cream Cleanser: this is a staple in my bathroom! I use it to effortlessly remove all of my makeup at night, and it works wonderfully. While the residue of the cream is fine to leave on your skin, I always remove it with a micellar water afterward just because I wear other skincare products at night.

2) Say Yes to Blueberries Age Refresh Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 30: this 100% physical sunscreen is actually better for people with oily skin, because it is very mattifying and makes your skin feel like velvet. The sunscreen smells really good, too, and this company is generous with their natural ingredients. In fact, this product is 99% natural. Because it is a physical sunscreen (as opposed to chemical), flash photography does show a white cast, although if you wear makeup on top anyway, or if you are very fair, it's not an issue. I bought this screen out of curiosity, and right now my skin is still to dry for it. However, in a month or two, as the temperature becomes hotter and more humid, I am sure it will come in handy.

3) Sonia Kashuk No. 4 flat top multi-purpose brush: this brush is amazing! Super soft and dense, it is perfect for applying and blending foundation. The Sonia Kashuk costs only $16, but works just as well as the Shiseido version, which is $30.

From Sephora, I got:

1) NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder: love! The translucent powder gives your face a really beautiful, reflective glow without any sparkle, shimmer, or shine. It provides a diffused, matte glow, creating the soft-focused photography effect. The best thing about this powder is that it does not change the effects or look of your foundation; it simply seals everything in and keeps you looking polished.

Sonia Kashuk also makes a less expensive version, with the same ingredients in the same order and everything, but her powder has embossed animal prints on it, and things with animal prints on them give me the creeps.

2) Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47: this is also a 100% physical sunscreen, but it does not cause a white cast in flash photography. I also love how moisturizing it is! My skin is so dry right now, so it feels very comforting and soothing on. The moisturizer does cause a slight sheen on the skin, but it goes away when makeup is applied. After just a few days of daily use, my skin has gotten so soft and supple.

3) Dior Star Foundation: this foundation is amazing! It provides a medium coverage that is buildable to full. What's unique about this foundation is that while it makes your skin look perfect and flawless, your skin will still look like skin. This is the reason why I am so fond of this product. However, if you want the really polished, doll skin look, then this is going to disappoint you. It is very hydrating on my dry skin, too, although I've also heard positive reviews from people with oily skin.

For reference, my skin shade is light with olive undertone (MAC NC20), and the shade "020" is my perfect match; it is so seamless that you won't even see the difference in my face and neck. However, I've also read complaints from people who are also NC20, that Dior Star foundation is too dark or pink for them, but I think that's because their skin tone might lean toward yellow more, rather than neutral/olive.

As far as oxidation goes, I wore Dior Star for ten hours yesterday, and did not experience any!

And here's my birthday present from Sean (my husband) and our sons! I saw these Ted Baker "Elvena" shoes over at Krystel Couture a million years ago, and totally wanted them, but they were difficult to find in my size for a long time.

If you're wondering why my husband wrapped my present in a Christmas wrapping paper, that's because ever since he was a kid, Sean loved wrapping papers with snowmen on them. Lol! Mind you, we do have non-Christmas wrapping paper in the house. :-P

For my birthday meal, I cooked everything! I made beef pho (a Vietnamese beef noodle soup), and lime poppyseed cupcakes with whipped marshmallow-cream cheese frosting on top! I am not very fond of lemon, so I used lime instead; the result was very bright and refreshing!

By the way, I'm not really 25! It's just a joke between my husband and me (long story, haha).

So, these are the updates on my life so far. I hope that you're all doing well! Time for me to visit my favorite blogs and see what's new out there in the world.

What are your plans for this weekend?
If you have a blog, feel free to leave a link with your comment; I'd love to visit! :o) I'll continue to be very busy in the coming weeks, but I will try to visit everybody. Lol.
