Dressing for Your Personality / My Francesca's Collections Haul

Well, hello, friends!
Yes, I am still existing on this planet. Remember in an earlier post, when I said that we moved into a lovely 100-year-old house? Well, while the house truly is beautiful, it also does not have air conditioning. I didn't realize how hot and humid it would get here from late Spring through Summer, and we all have been extremely miserable. Thus, we are moving again, to a more modern dwelling, with all of the modern amenities that I would ever need. So, I've had my fun and gotten to experience living in an antique house, but decided that it is not for me, unless it's completely updated technology-wise.

I hope this explains why I've been missing in action! Lol.

Today, I want to talk to you about a fashion boutique chain that I recently fell in love with, called Francesca's Collections. By the way, I am not paid or sponsored in any way for this post; it's written purely out of love an admiration!

Most importantly, I want to address the importance of staying true to yourself and do what you feel is right, regardless of what everybody else is doing.

For about six months, I gave the "minimalist chic" look a try, because I thought that I wanted a change, and I also was bombarded by books on the importance of wearing plain "classics" because they are good investments. Yet, I felt that I died a little on the inside each time I wore those things.

If we ever cross path one day and meet in person, you would see that I'm a very expressive, friendly, and extroverted person. I am not shy, nor am I subdued, and it requires an extreme amount of effort for me to be quiet. I love to interact with people and learn everything that I can from them; you can say that I'm a "people person," because I really do love people!

Thus, subdued, minimalist designs do not speak for me; if anything, I felt stifled by them, and was constantly feeling uncomfortable in my own body.

Most importantly, I just felt so unhappy.

What is a life, if that life is spent living with so much unhappiness and discomfort?

Eventually, I made an active effort to close those books, and shut myself away from what the fashion experts had to say. Fashion experts are very helpful when you need to learn what styles are good for your shape, how to hide certain areas of your body that you do not want to display prominently, what colors go well together, etc., etc. However, it is also important to remember that at the end of the day, it is your opinion that is the most important because, ultimately, you're the one who has to wear the clothes!

Francesca's Collections caught my attention when I was still living in San Diego. I admired their vintage-inspired designs, which were also always very current and "now" at the same time. However, my children were young then, and I didn't have time to stop in and browse to my heart's content, until recently.

What I love about Francesca's is that it's obvious that their designs are thoughtfully curated, with their clienteles in mind. I would say that a typical shopper at Francesca's Collections is somebody who is a bit of an "old soul," and whose style is romantic, yet her attitude is always very modern and contemporary.

The designs really speak to me because I have always been drawn to styles of the past. I don't stick to a specific decade, however. Instead, I just dress according to my mood.

Recently, I walked into my local Francesca's Collections store, and was welcomed by two friendly girls. They introduced themselves, told me about the buy-one-get-one-50% off sale, and then allowed me to browse for as long as I liked; I was definitely not pressured in any way to hurry up, which I really appreciated! After I had picked out a few pieces, one of the girls offered to set up my dressing room for me. I tried on ten items, and left with the following: (by the way, I sincerely apologize about the picture quality. The memory card in my camera broke, so I had to use my phone. I promise higher quality pictures will be in future posts!).

Links are provided for items that are available online. :o)

Annabell Embroidered Shift Dress

A few days later, I visited their website out of curiosity, and saw an even better sale! Okay, so when you purchase one item, you get 20% off, which isn't that exciting, but when you purchase two items, you get 20% PLUS 50% off! Isn't that amazing? Plus, you get free standard shipping. How could I pass up that offer? Thus, I ended up with two dresses that will transition beautifully from late Summer into Fall.

  2. I am so happy about your post, cause I got to know you a bit better! I am also not the "classic" type and I would also feel unhappy to dress in a way that is not mine. I liked your sentence "staying true to yourself and do what you feel is right, regardless of what everybody else is doing". Yes, that's right. In every way. I have a "friend" that is very competitive and even offends me, with her opinions, that she wants to be always the one who knows all and is always right. I was very patient, but insult after insult and I am now trying to have some distance. I say that I don't want her to change, different opinions are OK, just the tone of her voice and words are not right. But we should stay true to ourselves, even if that us her own way - then now it was my choice to have that distance. I also agree about clothes. I am very boho, gypsy, hippie and I loved the last 2 dresses! But that friend says she is classic ladylike and that it is the best way to dress. She is very proud of that and kind of despises whoever dresses in another way. It took me a bit of time to stand for myself and say "ok, each with an own style". There's no right or wrong, just different. So good you closed the books and stayed true to yourself! The old house seems great, but comforts of modern time are definitely needed, so good luck moving again and I wish you a great weekend! You are such a great girl!

  3. Don't ever let anyone, not even the so called fashion expert try to tell you on how to dress up! I think it's each to their own and you just have to dress and be the way you really are. I am a very basic, jeans and top kinda girl. I tried wearing dresses because I have a vagina and everyone else thinks I MUST wear a dress but it made me seriously uncomfortable and it's just not me. Who cares? Just be the real you and we love you for it.

  13. Gorgeous! I love all the dresses you picked! I think in the end, you always go back to what you feel comfortable with. My style is more basic, simple colors and prints. I do wear things that are bright and have colorful prints, but I can't do it too often. It doesn't really feel like me. I get what you're feeling!
