Sunday Riley Flora Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil Review

If you're a product junkie like I am, chances are you've been hearing the buzz about Sunday Riley's skincare products over the past two years or so. When I first heard of her skincare products, my first thought was, "Oh, my God, they are so costly! What are they made out of, gold bricks?"

The answer is, yes. Yes, they are made of gold bricks.
Just kidding! However, they really are worth their weight in gold.

Every single product from the Sunday Riley line is so well-formulated, exquisite and beautiful, that they really do justify the prices. Simply put, the products are effective. Every single ingredient serves a purpose; there isn't any pointless filler here.

Of all the Sunday Riley skincare products that I've tried so far ("Luna" oil, "Good Genes" serum, and "Flora" oil), my favorite for this weather is definitely "Flora," so today I'd like to talk about that!

Having spent my entire life in warm climates, my skin did not adjust very well when we moved to New England. For instance, Autumn here truly is Autumn, with very cold early mornings, cool temperature for the remainder of the day, and then very cold again at night. Of course, "cold" is relative, but I am speaking from the perspective of somebody from Southern California.

So far, I have experienced Spring, Summer, and Autumn in New England. Spring was hideously cold (the snow did not completely melt until early May!), causing my skin to crack; Summer was so hot and humid that you could see makeup melting off of my face, as though it were wax melting off of a burning candle; Autumn is colder than Spring, but without the snow.

As you can imagine, my skin has really taken a beating. Nevertheless, I love New England (well, New Hampshire, to be specific) and I don't want to leave! I love the culture, the way of life, the beautiful scenery, history, etc. I especially love how the scenery changes with the season.

Since I have no desire to move away any time soon, I knew that I had to do something beneficial for my skin, which brings me to Sunday Riley's "Flora" Hydroactive Cellular Face Oil.

Sunday Riley's "Flora" oil is 100% natural, without any pointless filler, as each ingredient serves a purpose. This oil is perfect for weather-weary skin.

What is weather-weary skin, you ask? Well, if your skin is ravaged by the weather, whether due to it being too hot, too cold, or just too harsh, this oil will bring balance back to your skin and heal it. For me, my issue is that whenever the temperature is too extreme in any way, my entire face would get red, with darker red splotches all over. It'd also feel hot and painful to the touch, and just overall very uncomfortable for me to even move my mouth to speak, because any movement at all would hurt my skin. This never happened to me back in California, so I really think that it's because my skin has not adjusted to the climate here yet, and I'm not sure if it ever will. After all, I have lived here for six months, and I still struggle when it comes to my skin.

After using this oil just once, I woke up the next morning with my face perfectly clear of any redness! Even the redness around my nostrils, caused by broken capillaries, faded significantly (by at least 80%). My skin looked so smooth and bright, with barely visible pores, and  just felt so extremely soft. The more I used this oil, the more my skin condition improved.

Seriously, this oil had made me feel so beautiful, even without any foundation on! I like how it softens and hydrates my skin, without making it feel oily. The good news is that on nights I want more moisturization for my skin, I can easily wear a cream with Sunday Riley's "Flora" oil, and my face would still be fine, without any heaviness at all.

In addition to soothing weather-weary or irritated skin, this oil also quenches very dry skin and fights wrinkles. I have been lucky enough not to be burdened by wrinkles yet, but I love to use this oil as a preventative measure!

Texture-wise, this is a dry oil that quickly sinks into your skin, leaving behind a beautiful finish. Sunday Riley's "Flora" oil does have a scent (from the natural ingredients, not artificial fragrances), but it is very pleasant to me. It is rose-scented, but without being perfume-y; this is more of a botanical rose scent, instead of soapy or powdery.

Check out the beautiful ombre action!

  1. I totally enjoy using face oils. Right now I am using one at night by Dermalogica. This one sounds really hydrating and I like that it is not greasy.

  3. I haven't dipped my toe in the Sunday Riley pool yet and that is mainly down to how expensive it is! Having said that, I don't think I have ever read a negative review on their products so that says a lot about the quality of them...one day, maybe! :) x

    1. I know what you mean! They are super effective. The only complaints that I've seen are about how they are TOO effective, lol.

  4. I am glad that you like New Hampshire a lot and the culture and so on there! It's so good when we find a place that fills our hearts and minds! I loved the oil, though I didn't know the brand before, but because you say it reduced the redness and that your skin looks so good in the morning, and without foundation, I simply want to try it! It's lovely that you shared this brand with us and the results of the oil! Hope you have a very nice week!

    1. If this brand is too hard to find where you're at, try finding high-quality rosehip oil, too! It's super moisturizing but non-greasy. :o)

  7. this sounds great, I love face oils. My skin can get so dry over the winter, but I used a Clarins oil last year and it helped so much. I feel sorry for you having to adjust to cold weather, it really can mess around with your skin so it's good you've found a saviour products already!

  8. I haven't had much luck in the face oil department, but I've heard great things about Sunday Riley's blends. This one sounds like it may be too rich for my combination skin, but I will definitely be considering one of their other oils during the Sephora sale!

    1. Since you're combination, you should try Origins' new face oil; it'd be perfect!

  9. I love facial oil and am still trying to finish my Rodial Stemfood Facial oil which is amazing btw. Tell me about weather ravaged skin...I suffered last year when I first arrived Canada in Autumn! Having lived my whole life in a tropical country Malaysia, my skin went into shock. Breakouts, dryness, peeling skin, you name it, my skin got it last year.

I have two more facial oils waiting to be used but I will definitely add this into my list!
