Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere Review

The classic Chanel No. 5 perfume is still as controversial today as it was back in 1921, when it was released. The reason is because for the past 95 years, it has elicited so many extreme responses: people either love it or hate it, no in-between! However, that's also what makes it a classic.

In 2007, the house of Chanel released No. 5 Eau Premiere, a modernized version of the classic, and girl friends, let me tell you, it is fabulous. Back in 2013, No. 5 Eau Premiere was repackaged, from a tall rectangular bottle to the same bottle that the classic is in. A lot of people complained that the scent was also changed, but to me, both the 2007 and 2013 versions smelled the same (this is just according to my nose, of course). My bottle was purchased in January 2016, for reference.

So, what's the difference between the classic Chanel No. 5 and No. 5 Eau Premiere, anyway? Well, while No. 5 Eau Premiere still has the same abstract, beguiling, and futuristic qualities as the classic, it does smell so much more sparkling. If glitters and shimmers had a scent, they would smell like No. 5 Eau Premiere; the perfume just has such a crystalline quality to it.

Basically, the perfumers at the house of Chanel removed the amber and violet that are in the classic No. 5, and the result was No. 5 Eau Premiere. While I enjoy amber and violet on their own, together they smell very dated. Thus, removing the amber and violet from the formula totally brought the perfume into the 21st Century.

Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere is so fabulous, sophisticated, yet not stuffy at all. It's sparkling yet complex, and has just as much personality as the classic. The perfume is a modern classic for the modern woman. I love it.

I know I've said this earlier, but I will say it again: Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere is fabulous.

Summary: Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere smells very modern because the amber and violet -- a sweet and floral combination that could make a perfume smell dated -- are no longer present in it. The updated perfume smells sparkling and crystalline. The scent is sophisticated and reminiscent of clean skin. The lasting power is long, from 4-6 hours, depending on your skin type. After that, the scent is still there, but softer.

Who will enjoy Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere: If you like the classic No. 5, you will probably like this; the important thing to remember that the reason why No. 5 Eau Premiere smells slightly different from the classic is because it's supposed to. It's different, yet familiar at the same time, like a longtime friend who just got a face-lift. ;-) Also, if you like the scent of the classic Nivea cream, you will most likely enjoy this perfume. Of course, No. 5 Eau Premiere is much more refined, but it has that distinctive, cold quality that the Nivea scent has.

  3. The controversy has carried over to my family. Chanel No 5 is my sister's favorite perfume. I can't stand how it smells. I do like the men's version though.

  4. I actually love Chanel no. 5, my mum has it and I used to 'borrow' it whenever I'm home for a vista. Never tried this newer version though but it would definitely be interesting to see how it differs to the original.

  8. Hello! You are so right, there's no in-between :) I mean, well, I don't hate the classic one, but that is just not for me. Now, the Premiere one seems to be really nice, your description was excellent! But I love amber... anyway, the bottle is beautiful and Chanel is a brand of extreme quality, so I am sure the new version is amazing!
